Lochgilphead Town Centre Active Travel

Lochgilphead Town Centre to the Joint Campus Active Travel Designs.

Walk, Cycle Lochgilphead is a project aimed at improving the walking, wheeling and cycling experience between Lochgilphead Joint Campus and the town centre. The project is funded through the Sustrans administered Places for Everyone programme that seeks to make streets safer and more attractive for pedestrians and cyclists.

Project updates

The project is currently  funded up to the completion of Design Stage 4 (Technical Design). A funding application has been submitted to the Transport Scotland Active Travel Infrastructure Fund (ATIF) for the construction stages of the project. The ATIF programme replaces the Sustrans administered Places for Everyone (PfE) programme as Transport Scotland’s flagship model to deliver active travel projects in Scotland. However it is a competitive challenge fund, with the 32 local authorities, 7 regional transport partnerships, and two national parks across Scotland competing against each other to secure the funding each project requires.

Project Background

The 2016 Rethink the Link Charrette identified a community desire to see the creation of a safe route for cycling between Ardrishaig and the Lochgilphead Joint Campus. This project seeks to deliver the part of this route that runs between Lorne Street and the Lochgilphead Joint Campus.

ºúÌÒÅ®Éñ were successful in securing external funding from Transport Scotland, through the Sustrans administered Places for Everyone Programme to  explore the options and feasibility and develop a design for this new active travel route. Between 2021 and 2024 a series of public consultation events and workshops were held to help inform the development of the design for the new route.
